Donor information
What do you need to know?
Here's what I think you should know about me, your donor:
-- My interests and disinterests; my likes and dislikes
-- The emotional triggers that work best with me...and illustrations of this gathered from talking with me
-- Stories I tell
-- Metaphors I use
-- Questions that I ask you
-- Answers to questions that you've asked me
Look at these questions to ask donors. Think about the top 7 emotional triggers identified by the direct marketing industry: anger, fear, greed, guilt, flattery, exclusivity, and salvation. If you want a significant gift from a donor, collect good info.

2.  Visit www.askingmatters.com. Tips and videos about personal solicitation. Assessments about your personal asking style. Strategies to involve your board members.
3.  Visit www.charityfacts.org, Adrian Sargeant's website. Yes, some of it is about the UK - but our work is based on research and body of knowledge. So surely you'll learn something.
4.  Read the neuroscience blog. Learn about brain science because that's what happens in your donor's brain.
5.  Read the trusted advisor blog. Learn more about trust because without trust, you won't have donors.

Simone's Blog: Personal Rants
More women in politics?
Not yet. But maybe someday?
83% of the U.S. Congress are men. More than 3/4 of state legislators are men. Men hold 44 of the governor positions. And men run 93 of the nation's 100 largest cities.
Do you get this? Only 17% of those elected to the U.S. Congress are women. Only 1/4 of the state legislators are women. Only 6 of 50 governors are women. And only 7 women are mayors of the nation's 100 largest cities.
This is awful. Terrible. I hope you are as embarassed and angry as I am. ...read more
