What we do for you
I'm proud to say that I'm recognized internationally as one of the nonprofit sector’s most thoughtful, inspirational and provocative leaders.
I'm an expert in fund development, board and organizational development, strategic planning, and management. Clients – located throughout the U.S. and in other countries – include all types and sizes of not-for-profit organizations, including foundations and government. Yes, I've worked with all-volunteer organizations with tiny budgets. And I've worked with huge organizations with hundreds of staff multi-million dollar budgets. I enjoy them all!
As a sole practitioner, I serve as your consultant and manage your project. When necessary, I bring in additional consultants - operating at my level of excellence - to provide support on projects.
What others say about me will give you a better sense of my work and approach. Read the changing testimonials on my homepage. Click on testimonials in the left-hand navigation bar.

Consulting services:
  • Board and Organizational Development
  • Fund Development (relationship building with donors, annual funds and major gifts, capital projects)
  • Integrated Organizational Support (putting lots of different things together all at one time in a carefully integrated manner)
  • Marketing and Communications (with Tom Ahern, Ahern Communications)
  • Planning (short- and long-range)
  • Personnel and Compensation
  • Services to Funding Sources
  • Training and Presenting (and coaching and mentoring, too)

Sector experience: I have more than 35 years experience as staff (executive director and chief development officer), consultant, and board member in the nonprofit sector. In 2010, I celebrated 22 years as a full-time consultant. As a volunteer, I serve regularly on boards, often as chair.
I've founded two organizations: In 1984, I founded the first iteration of a statewide arts advocacy organization in Rhode Island. And in 2000, I founded the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, a social justice organization.

Ethics: I subscribe to the Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the code of ethics of the Association of Philanthropic Council. I also support the Donor Bill of Rights.

Cost: You get what you pay for. You've heard that before. I work quickly and efficiently. My experience and expertise save you time and reduce your risk. I anticipate problems and intervene quickly. And when an organization really wants to work with me - and I really want to work with them... we figure out how to make the cost work.
